In a situation that has been developing since the beginning of March, T2I have gained exclusive access to the ringleaders of Sandymount's new nudist colony setting up on the beach in Sandymount, Dublin 4.
Maureen and Edmund Swifton are originally from Dorset, and were inspired to set up the new naturalist beach after living close to Studland beach on the Isle of Purbeck, Dorset, on the south coast of England. This beach is one of the most famous naturist colonies in England where people gather far and wide to enjoy the great outdoors in every way possible.

Recently moved to the Sandymount area due to Edmund Swifton's new job in PWC, the Swifton's want to spread the nude love with other people in the area. Naturism is a lifestyle of practicing non-sexual social nudity in private and in public; the word also refers to the cultural movement which advocates and defends that lifestyle. Both may alternatively be called nudism. Though the two terms are broadly interchangeable, nudism emphasizes the practice of nudity, whilst naturism highlights an attitude favoring harmony with nature and respect for the environment, into which that practice is integrated. That said, naturists come from a range of philosophical and cultural backgrounds; there is no single naturist ideology.
The Swiftons have already amassed a following online, reaching new attendees through social media posts and flyers to local businesses. But, there are worries in the local constituency from those who believe that this is nothing other than "an act of exhibitionism, aimed at getting their rocks off on the backs of hardworking Sandymount residences just trying to enjoy their day," said a local official, off the record. There was also a comment made about the exploitation of children who shouldn't see "aul ones walking around with their birthday suits on like it's normal."
"There's nothing sexual about it," rebukes Maureen, 52, "we want to be as God made us, naked as wee babes and enjoying the beach and the sea in this gorgeous part of Dublin. And I love seeing his jiggly bits!" referencing her husband, who stands before me, stark naked.
"We hope others will see the beauty in it and join us, young and old," adds Edmund, 68, "it's all about reconnecting with nature! Especially as the weather warms up!"
According to Dublin City Council, Sandymount Strand was classified as having Poor Water Quality in 2023 based on the water quality results for the period 2020 to 2023 and consequently, a Bathing Prohibition will apply at the bathing water for the 2024 bathing season.
When asked about this Edmund Swifton responds, "Rules, and rules, and rules! Who cares! They're the same people who made the rules that we should all be wearing clothes to begin with! To hell with society norms, God wanted us to be free and we'll be free!"
"We'll be here, naked and gorgeous, until they stop us! It's the most liberating thing!" adds Maureen, lifting up and dropping her breasts excitedly.
