Winter Woodland at Beyond the Trees Avondale

Just under an hour from Dublin, Winter Woodland returns this season with an atmospheric programme of outdoor experiences and festive activities. The estate is transformed after dark, with illuminated treetop trails, winter markets, entertainment for children, and the arrival of Santa Claus later in the run.

One of the key highlights is the Treetop Night Lights – a spectacular illuminated walk above the forest canopy. Visitors can also take to the ice at the covered rink, operated as Wicklow on Ice, a seasonal activity suitable for all ages without concern for the weather.

Families will find further attractions on site, including vintage children’s carousels, a playground, and Santa’s Smurf Village, where Father Christmas begins meeting visitors from 28 November.

Avondale House itself is dressed for the season too, with a Victorian Christmas presentation. Across the grounds, food and craft stalls bring a festive market atmosphere, while the Seed Café serves warming seasonal treats.

Winter Woodland begins on Saturday 15 November and runs Thursday to Sunday throughout the season, with the Treetop Night Lights, ice rink, stalls, carousels, and playground operating on these days. From 18 December to 4 January, the experience will be open daily, excluding 24 and 25 December. Combination tickets covering multiple attractions are available.

With a broad programme of activities in one location, Winter Woodland offers an accessible and festive day or evening out for families, couples, and groups looking to embrace the season in Wicklow.
